About Design Glass
Starting in 1989, Design Glass undertook the work of conservation and heritage sites. One early major project was the restoration of the leaded lights at Hawkshead Grammar School in the Lake District famous for giving us William Wordsworth.
Now in 2020, we offer a variety of services from restoration of leaded lights to producing our very own stained glass domes. Working alongside our sister company Touchstone Glazing Solutions, we also offer encapsulation of a leaded light into a double glazed unit.
At Design Glass we combine our passion with our skill and knowledge to bring every piece of glass to life. Using our 30 years of experience in the glass industry, we are proud to be one of the few remaining glass businesses which still use traditional techniques and make everything by hand from start to finish.
Located in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, our workshop has been at the forefront of spectacular designs and creations. From handmaking the 7.5m glass dome for the Savoy Hotel in London to refurbishing Gorton Park Monastery in Manchester.
We can happily assist with any project, large or small.
Each of our qualified craftsmen have been apprentice trained. Incredible as it may seem we have nearly a century and a half of combined experience in the field of stained glass.
We can produce leaded lights and stained glass for for any size project and take pride at every step of the process.
Harpurhey Baths was a major refurbishment project where we handled all the stained glass restoration, in this case even going as far as to actually manufacture some of the glass ourselves to ensure a perfect match.

Touchstone Glazing Solutions
Touchstone is our sister company and manufactures double gazing for historic and listed buildings. With an outstanding reputation within the conservation world for its passion, Touchstone have been developing and manufacturing innovative products which offer unique solutions for thermally efficient windows, doors and roof-lights for over a decade. Their products not only protect the fabric of historic buildings but look nearly indistinguishable from the original whilst offering the best in thermal efficiency.
With over 30 years of making and repairing stained glass and leaded lights, we realised there was a need to develop new technologies which offered thermally efficient alternatives. With this in mind, we developed Insulead®, a frameless, fully drained and thermally broken glazing solution. Insulead® allows historic buildings to be double glazed without damaging the fabric of the building, looks virtually identical to the original and is made using traditional techniques and materials. Our Steelyte® opening casements are stainless steel, fully weather-stripped, thermally broken and have achieved a BFRC ‘A’ rating for thermal efficiency.
